Amiche60m floating social hub

Concept design study based on a brief from Feadship. A refit project transforming an original 60 m Feadship into a Mediterranean day boat that celebrates friendship and time spent together.

Amiche means “friends” in Italian. The Amiche concept builds on the idea of human connection. Some of the main influences for the project come from Le Corbusier’s Unité d’Habitation and its principles of communal living — to live, play, and come together.

Its multi-level decks allow for a playful spatial arrangement and generous overhangs. Staircases become part of the living flow, creating moments to pause for conversation, enjoy the sun, or host a party of 20 guests for an al fresco dinner.

The Amiche concept takes the refit request to another level through multiple strategies aimed at reducing overall power demand. The hull has been modified to improve hydrodynamic performance. A near-vertical bow extends the waterline compared to the previous design, helping to reduce wave-making resistance. A battery-pack retrofit has also been considered in the newly developed layout, allowing for silent operation while the vessel is at anchor or in port.

Yachts often spend up to 30 % of their time at anchor, making wave-energy capture an appealing opportunity. A passive energy-generating system known as the “Hammerhead” features retractable fins that deploy horizontally on each side of the forward section. As these fins encounter waves, they not only dampen the vessel’s motions but also harvest wave energy using a permanent-magnet rotary drive generator. This energy can be converted into direct current, supplying approximately 50% of the hotel load with just a one-meter wave height.

The utilisation of Starlink technology improves onboard connectivity while maintaining a sleek design profile. In addition, it reduces the vessel’s wind profile area, helping to lower overall resistance.

Heat captured from various onboard sources is used in an integrated heat-recovery system that efficiently heats or cools both living spaces and domestic water. Generator cooling water is used to heat several pools on board. The air-conditioning system also utilises waste-heat recovery, reheating incoming dehumidified air without the need for electric heating elements.
