Armadillo80m expedition and research motor yacht

Concept design study based on directives from Feadship. An 80 m yacht designed for long-distance cruising, venturing to remote locations and high-latitude regions. A vessel designed as a platform for both luxury expeditions and scientific research.

The main inspiration for Concept Armadillo comes from post-war modernist architecture, specifically the work of Slovak Brutalist architects Ivan Kuzma and Vladimír Dedeček. The Brutalist modern architecture they created often contrasted sharply with historic town centers, sparking debate among people who found it difficult to accept these new architectural forms. In a similar manner, Concept Armadillo deliberately contrasts with the high-latitude regions and other environments in which it may sail.

Scope of work:

  • General Arrangement Development

  • Exterior Design

  • Interior Design

  • Visualisations

A luxury yacht that integrates scientific research laboratories and dedicated workspaces into its layout, supporting ocean preservation initiatives and research. Exploration of remote locations is enhanced by a wide range of tenders (up to 16 m), a 4×4 vehicle, a landing area, and a fully enclosed hangar for an Airbus H135 helicopter.

The bridge deck and control centre, offering 360-degree views, are housed in a UFO-like structure covered in solar panels that harness the power of the sun.

In addition to a spacious master suite and spa area, the yacht offers accommodation in three en-suite twin convertible cabins. The health and safety of passengers in remote locations are further supported by an onboard hospital facility.
